The Mitchells vs the Machines
The Mitchells vs. the Machines is a rollercoaster of family fun. It covers different themes elegantly while using a somewhat different style of animation. A complete family story to the core, this animated movie by Netflix delivers great entertainment.
The run time is almost 2 hours. From the start to the final credits, this movie never feels slow, even though it does feel a bit stretched at the end. Maybe it’s because we are not used to animated movies being too long. But, having said that, it does not affect the overall quality of the movie at all.
Another Robot Apocalypse
The story of machines taking over the world is not new in cinema. Fans love these types of futuristic sci-fi stories. And for the same reason, it is also hard to execute these stories well because fans always expect more.
I think on many levels The Mitchells vs. the Machines handles this robot apocalypse story quite well. And the style used in this movie is very interesting, to say the least.
The comic vibe around the Mitchell family feels good throughout the movie. But one can’t just ignore some of the jokes being a tad bit repetitive.
Apart from that, all the lead characters are very well choreographed. Some of the action sequences are executed quite well.
Mostly it’s good storytelling that makes this movie so engaging. Other positives include comedy, especially good humor related to technology.
Watch or not?
This fun-packed comedy-adventure seems to be a perfect choice for an ideal family movie night. This one is long enough to be thoroughly enjoyable and fast enough not to be boring. There are certainly so many things to like about this animated movie.
Overall the movie is a wholesome fun pack that delivers some good entertainment. Sound direction by Michael Rianda. And a great story that hits at our increasing technology dependence in a fun way.
