The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

I think The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is certainly a bit different from the two previous movies. Like all successful movie franchises, people expect more from the new sequels. And at times, it gets hard for the filmmakers to meet those expectations.

What’s Lacking?

If we do a quick comparison to the previous movies, this one certainly lacks on many counts. Yes, the story is obviously different but people want the signature horror chills associated with The Conjuring movies. Over the years the element of basic horror has toned down in the conjuring movies and with this movie, it is the lowest.

Maybe it’s due to the increasing familiarity with the lead actors. But the classic horror film tactics seem to be toned down a bit. This latest movie feels more like a criminal investigation than a horror flick.

I think the problem is not with the story itself. But the way it has been edited. The classic horror buildup, used to perfection in the first conjuring movie is clearly missing in this one. The movie relies heavily on flashbacks, which could’ve been avoided with a more direct approach. 

Like all The Conjuring movies, performances are strong. The duo of Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga is again brilliant. Other actors in the movie have also done a remarkable job. 

The Conjuring 3, How Good is it?

All in all, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is a good movie. The story is good, performances are great. The movie just lacks a bit considering the legacy of The Conjuring movies. It lacks the horror x-factor of the previous conjuring movies.

I think it had the potential to the best of the lot but some average decisions in style and tone of the movie made it the lowest-rated of them all. Plus point of the movie is certainly the acting, really good as always.
